Basic Home Security

You need to find out everything you can on the subject of home security for your home and your family.  If you want your home to be safe and secure, it is important to have a security analysis preformed by a reputable company. This will assess the weak points of your home security and will help you understand what areas need more protection and what areas have sufficient protection to keep you safe.

Break in burglar home security

Take a look through your ground floor windows to see what intruders can potentially see from the outside. Often it is easy to see expensive items like flat screen TVs, laptops, tablets and so on from the windows and these are the items thieves always target, so it is worth ensuring your curtains are well fitted and prevent outsiders looking in and have net curtains as well for the daytime.

Having a good sized dog can make for a great home security system and deterrent to criminals who are considering breaking into your house. Even if you do not have a dog, buying a couple "beware of the dog" signs can be enough to deter people from robbing your house. Home security alarm and camera systems may be very effective most of the time, a lot of crimes are committed in the daytime when the home is occupied. In these cases, the alarm may not have been even on so no warning sound would be emitted at all. Most burglars will tend to get into the home somewhere other than your front door.

It is a good strategy to get to know your next door neighbours. They  are a most valuable resource in that they can often keep an eye on your house when you are away. It is great when neighbours look out for each other, and often you can find that you will be alerted when anything unusual or suspicious is happening around your property. It is often worth listening to local neighborhood gossip as well. If you find that you are hearing about houses being broken into in your area, it can be interpreted as a sign to invest in better home security.

It is always worth checking out a company prior to appointing them to install a security system in your home. Look on the internet for reviews and articles and check with your local police and business bureau if the company is safe and reliable. You simply have to make sure you are dealing with a company you can completely trust as it has been known for security companies to be fronts for entire gangs of thieves working together.

It is worth lighting your garden and lawn at night. You don't need to overdo it, just a few lights here and there will be a great deterrent as thieves always prefer a dak garden or back yard to work in, another good plan is to have the lights on timers, proximity systems are excellent as well at making your garden less appealing to the average house breaker. One of the biggest areas of concern in regards to home security is the landscaping of your home. Do not let your bushes and other landscaping grow to where it can hide entry points into your home. Thieves just love to be able to stay hidden while they enter and leave your home, so keep your bushes trimmed.

When it comes to safeguarding your most valuable items, you need to create or install a good safe place for them to be hidden. There are loads of places you could use to safely hide your valuables but the best option is always a wall safe, preferably well hidden in a closet or behind a piece of furniture. Make sure you have the key or combination in a safe place. You need flashlights and plenty of batteries in each room just in case your power ever goes out. If the lights go out, they will ensure everyone stays safe. Be sure everyone in your family is aware of the location of emergency flashlights. If you are going on vacation, do not change your answering machine telling everyone that you are going to be away. Burglars will call this number and see that it is open season on your house. Keep your regular message and advise friends and family members to call your mobile phone when you are away.
